5 Strategies to SEO your WordPress Blog

What are the best SEO strategies out there today? As a blogger, you’ve probably heard so much about SEO.

It seems like your entire blog should revolve around it, which isn’t entirely true. I always advise bloggers to write for their audience first, and not for SEO, though you should still definitely be paying attention to it if you are trying to get more people to your website. The more visitors you get to your website, the better your chances are for conversions: People that buy your product or service, sign up to your mailing list, or whatever else objective you have. SEO can make this happen for you: it helps your site rank on Google and other search engines, and your content to show up in the search results.

SEO is by no means the only way to drive traffic to your site. If you’re looking for different ways to drive traffic to your website, I covered that in THIS POST. But it is a way get a lot of people to your website… for free. And who doesn’t love free, organic traffic? Imagine your website getting thousands of views per day just because you’re ranking on Google and appearing in the web search results. You already know that Google only loves you when everyone loves you too, so it’s important that you get Google to love your blog.

Increasing your blog’s visibility can’t get any easier with these 5 strategies that will help you optimize your WordPress website for search.

Get an SEO Friendly Host

A lot of people don’t know this, but your website host matters. Some hosts are terrible for SEO. If your website experiences a lot of downtimes, this might be due to your host. And you’re the one who’ll get penalized because it will affect your SEO negatively. Google needs to keep its customers happy and they’re not going to put a slow loading or downed website on its first page where people are most likely going to click. So if this is you, consider switching to a better host. I always recommend SiteGround for hosting. We’ve had multiple sites with them since 2016 and have never experienced any downtime. Not to mention all the great benefits we’ve gotten including free CloudFare and amazing 24/7 customer service.

Pick An SEO Friendly Theme

The theme you use on your blog is equally as important as the blog itself. Your theme could hinder your website’s SEO, by, for example, making your readers’ visiting experience, thus also giving you a bad score in Google’s books. You will want to go with a theme that loads quickly. A theme that makes it easy to navigate so it encourages people to spend more time on your website which also really counts for SEO.

Install The Number 1 SEO Plug-in (Yoast)

Every time I set up a website for clients, one of the first plugins I install is Yoast. It is absolutely the best for SEO because it targets pretty much all the main on-page SEO factors and will add a lot of optimization focused features to your blog. It is also a pretty easy plugin to figure out. There are so many SEO focused plugins that you can install instead of Yoast, and I do recommend you do your own research to find one that works best for you, but I do consider Yoast one of, if not, the best.

Focus On Your Keywords

Building your blog content around niche keywords are great for SEO because it helps your content to turn up in search engines when those words and word phrases are being searched for by readers. You want to use these keywords strategically in the titles, heading and the content itself. The Yoast plugin is a great tool to help you with this. But avoid forcing these words or phrases into your content where it doesn’t fit or it will be flagged as spam and this will work against you. Keep it natural!

Focus On Quality Over Quantity

Every time. This is a must in my opinion. Posting and publishing new articles every week actually gives you an advantage in SEO but will turn out to be entirely useless if the quality of these articles don’t match up. Try to create content that shares value and is helpful to people. You should always write for your audience while implementing the SEO strategies you’ve learned. When creating content, try and offer it to yourself first. If you honestly think that what you’re putting out will help you or bring awareness in some way, then definitely publish that article. Keeping people continuously interested in your content will help your SEO big time.
